With Roger de Sa expected to be announced as the new Ajax Cape Town coach later today, it is said to be the prospect of developing youth that turned his head.
The Siya crew reported on the last day of January that De Sa, who had resigned from his position at Orlando Pirates, was close to agreeing a deal with the Urban Warriors, and it was confirmed yesterday that personal terms had been agreed.
Late last night Ajax announced that they will be holding a press conference today, believed to be connection with De Sa's appointment, after they were seemingly given the green light by mother club, Ajax Amsterdam.
The crew tracked down De Sa's agent, Steve Kapeluschnik, who would only confirm that there was interest in the coach. He said, "There has been a lot of interest in Roger since he left Pirates, but he needed to take some time to clear his mind and try to decide what he wanted to do."
However, when pressed for an answer of De Sa's Ajax future, Kapeluschnik said, "We have been approached by Ajax, but due to their relationship in Amsterdam there are certain processes that need to be completed and it's a complex structure."
When asked whether the former Wits coach and CEO would be interested, his representative replied, "Of course he's interested, Roger has a history of working with youth and was crucial in setting up the Wits academy. Working with the abundance of young talent in Cape Town would be a great experience for him."
Ajax hold their press conference at 12h30 today when they are expected to announce De Sa as their new head coach.
