Soccer Laduma rates the individual performances of the Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United players. Following AmaKhosi's 3-2 win at the FNB Stadium.
Kaizer Chiefs Ratings:
Reyaad Pieterse: 6.5
Produced a couple fine saves and interceptions, while he was helpless with both of Maritzburg United's goals.
Kgosto Moleko: 6
Did a steady job deputising for Siboniso Gaxa, managed to add numbers going forward and hardly put a foot wrong defensively.
Lorenzo Gordinho: 7
Made a few good tackles in the first half and looked composed whenever in possession. Gordinho also popped up with a fine header in stoppage time to secure victory for his side.
Siyanda Xulu: 5
Looked shaky in the first half and it was his poor back pass that led to Rusike's equaliser in the second half, but his evening was cut short due to a head injury in the 60th minute.
Tsepo Masilela: 6
Wasn't troubled by the threat of Deolin Mekoa down the flank and managed to add numbers in the attack on a few occasions.
Willard Katsande: 7
Continues to impress in the middle of the park and managed to get his name on the score-sheet from the penalty spot.
Lucky Baloyi: 6
Replaced Reneilwe Letsholonyane in the midfield, and he put in a workman-like showing alongside Katsande.
George Maluleka: 6
Not the best of showings from Maluleka, he failed to offer anything in the attack and was replaced shortly after the halftime break.
George Lebese: 6
Lebese was a real threat down the left flank, he picked up the assist for Abraw's goal but was substituted in the 40th minute with a suspected injury.
Siphiwe Tshabalala: 6.5
Tshabalala continues to pull the strings for AmaKhosi, he played a number of fine passes to Abraw and also picked up the assist for Gordinho's goal.
Camaldine Abraw: 7
Managed to win the penalty, which Katsande converted and also popped up with his second goal in as many games with a well-placed header.
Substitutes:
William Twala: 6
Replaced Lebese just before the halftime break, but other than a long range effort at the start of the second half, he he had a quiet evening.
Hendrick Ekstein: 6
Brought on in the final 20 minutes but offered anything different to his replacement.
Bernard Parker: 6
Parker was brought on as Chiefs were searching for the win but failed to make a major impact.
Maritzburg United Ratings:
Glenn Verbauwhede: 6
Not much the former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper could do, except pick the ball out of the net on three occasions.
Tamsanqa Teyise: 6.5
Struggled against Lebese in the second half but managed to get on the score-sheet just before the break and was solid in the second half.
Kwanda Mngonyama: 6
Couldn't contain the threat of Abraw in the first half, with many of Chiefs' attacks coming through middle.
David Booysen: 6
Similarly to Mngonyama, he was out of position when Abraw broke through for the penalty in the first half but grew stronger in the second stanza.
Tumelo Mogapi: 6
Did well defensively, although he didn't get forward enough throughout the game.
Jabulani Nene: 6
Didn't too bad against the Chiefs midfield but he wasn't that spectacular either.
Manti Mekoa: 6
Worked tirelessly in the Maritzburg midfield and put in a number of challenges, as he attempted to break up the Chiefs attack.
Pentjie Zulu: 6.5
Zulu put in a real workman-like showing down the left flank, he managed to get forward on a few occasions and tracked back to help Mogapi.
Deolin Mekoa: 6.5
Mekoa was real threat for the Chiefs defence throughout the 90 minutes and one of the real shinning lights for Ernst Middendorp.
Kurt Lentjies: 6.5
Another player who impressed on the night, he squandered two chances to score in the first and second half but he was a constant threat.
Evans Rusike: 7
Troubled the Chiefs defence, particularly Xulu, with his pace and took his goal beautifully in the second half.
Substitutes:
Abia Nale: 6
Brought on for the final 20 minutes but failed to make the desired impact.
Khumbulani Banda: NA
Not on the field long enough to receive a rating.
