Pitso: The Challenge Of Producing Neymar, Vini Jr In SA

After Relebohile Mofokeng was linked to Barcelona, Pitso Mosimane has detailed what South Africa needs to produce superstars such as Neymar, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.

Mosimane has broken the barriers in coaching after he became the first Sub-Saharan coach to manage Al Ahly.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach went on to even greater heights, after he carved out a career in the Middle East and Gulf, which saw him land in leagues such as the Saudi Pro League, which has a number of superstars flocking to it such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane and Neymar.

Arguably since Benni McCarthy, South Africa is yet to produce a player that can stand toe to toe with and at the top of the world game.

Currently, one of the best emerging youngsters in the country, Mofokeng was linked to Barcelona B side, with supporters believing that he has the potential to make a name for himself in Europe.

Mosimane, who is back in Mzansi after his stint with Iranian side Esteghlal came to an end, has detailed how South Africa can produce top talent such as Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.

"I've been playing against Sadio Mane, Ronaldo, Reyad Mahrez, (you can) mention all these big names, I've played against them on the pitch, (N'Golo) Kante and all that and then I see the real challenge we have in South Africa, why we don't have players in those spaces," Mosimane said in an interview on The Dan Corder Show on eNCA.

"Everybody talks about football development but we don't talk about how to do that? How to do is the programme, positioning, manipulating the ball, we need that because that's what makes Neymar, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.

"We need the physical side, speed is part of physical side. We need nutrition, how to condition the player and it's not about the size, Rodrygo is the same as Mofokeng of Pirates (in size), it's a package, also not forgetting the mentality and the social life, social life skills, the attitude to win, to persevere, how much more do you want it. We don't have that culture in the country," Mosimane added.
