Overseas-Based Sibusiso Magwaza Stranded Due To Coronavirus Lockdown

Following recent reports and confirmation from the government that many South Africans have been left stranded in foreign countries due to the ongoing Coronavirus disruptions, the Siya crew has learnt that another Mzansi footballer is currently in a state of despair very far away from home.

It was recently reported by the Siya crew that Nyanga-born midfielder Mkhanyiseli Siwahla has been stuck abroad, although he would have loved to return from from Poland, where he is playing, to be closer to family and loved ones in Mzansi.

Sibusiso Magwaza – the Bidvest Wits youth development product who has been plying his trade overseas – is stuck in Lithuania where he plays for FK Minija.

"I didn't travel because of the lockdown here due to the COVID-19. They are talking about pushing the re-start of the season to June or July. I can say they aren't sure of when the league will resume. We are currently in a lockdown and nothing is happening," Magwaza told the Siya crew.

The 25-year-old winger is concerned that there has been a confirmed incident of a COVID-19 infection in the apartment he stays in with a teammate from Côte d'Ivoire.

"In the apartment that we are staying in there is a lady that was recently taken away – I'm not sure if to hospital or where – because of the COVID-19. We are in first floor and she is in third floor of the apartment," he said.

Despite his misery in a foreign country, Magwaza is also worried about the rapid spread of the deadly disease in Mzansi, as he says in the message to people back home.

"I am okay and they shouldn't be worried (at home). As things are, I am the one who should be worried about people back home because it is there that this thing is really spreading now. I think here they have contained it," the Johannesburg-born player concluded.

Reports in Lithuania yesterday (Wednesday) have indicated that their government has extended the nationwide quarantine period to until April 27.
