Sundowns Defender Set To Escape Downsizing Cut

"Negotiations have been ongoing but now we can say the deal is as good as done. Yes, he has been out with injury but the club knows his value and the negotiations started long before the injury. They apparently believe he can still offer a lot to the team hence the three-year new deal," the insider stated.

A second source disclosed that, as part of the club's downsizing initiative which was already reported by Soccer Laduma, other defenders may be given the opportunity to move on.

"There are changes taking place at the club in terms of cutting down the squad size and the defence is one department that is expected to have a number of players being released or loaned out but Mvala is set to stay looking at the new three-year deal," the second insider told the Siya crew.

Mvala joined Sundowns in 2020 from Highlands Park alongside striker Peter Shalulile. Since joining, the 30-year-old has been one of the most consistent players for the Brazilians, picking up silverware along the way.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for comment but the club had not responded by the time this article was published.
