Mike Makaab Has Shared His Thoughts On Football Resuming Behind Closed Doors

The Premier Soccer League executive committee has once again met this morning to discuss a way forward for the 2019/20 season during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Football in South Africa has been suspended for just over two months, as the country endures several weeks in lockdown.

However, with South Africa set to move to level 3 as of next month, certain restrictions are expected to continue easing, although there has been no clarity on what this would mean for football in Mzansi.

As reported earlier today by the Siya crew, amongst other things, there has been speculation about a proposal of playing behind closed doors and a suggestion to start from July 01.

Although, there is a long procedure before an official decision is made, as the proposal still needs to be submitted to the South African government.

Meanwhile, prominent figures in the football industry have continued to weigh in with their opinions on the resumption of football, amongst them is Mike Makaab, who represents several players in the top flight, including Jeremy Brockie, Anele Ngcongca and Bernard Parker.

"The most important thing is that human life has to be at the forefront," Makaab said, "But I think that we should be allowed to play behind closed doors, if they can do it Germany, and we can also put the relevant measures in place, then I think we should.

"I don't think there is any more risk of something happening there than a footballer going to a shopping mall to do shopping and ending up contracting the virus through contact there. We can wear mask and do all of those things but there is no guarantee," he told the Siya crew.

"I think that Government is very well aware of the fact that football has to resume sooner rather than later and we can only hope that it does happen.

"It is all very well to say that there has already been a positive COVID-19 test on Ben Motshwari but it has happened all over the world, (Paulo) Dybala had it three times - that doesn't mean that the Serie A is not going to continue, it just means that they are going to take serious precautions that's all," Makaab ended.
