The 31-year-old striker recently returned from a loan spell in Cyprus that was cut short due to financial issues at the club, and the Siya crew has previously reported that he was searching for a club to spend the rest of the 2015/16 season with.
While the striker's options are severely limited at the moment due to clubs having filled their foreign quotas, the crew has been led to believe that the Senegalese forward is trying to use his assets to acquire permanent residence in Mzansi.
Niang hasn't been in the country for five consecutive years and therefore cannot apply for permanent residence that way, however like players such as Alje Schut and Glenn Verbauwhede, he can use his assets to acquire one.
While it seems unlikely that the player will be able to fast-track through the application before the end of the South African transfer window on Friday afternoon, it is thought that Maritzburg United are waiting in the wings in case he does become available as a local.
