The spotlight is shining on Daine Klate, and the Chippa United coach has revealed two decorated South African tacticians that he looks up to.
Klate, who is amongst the greatest players to have played in SA's topflight with seven league titles to his name and several individual accolades, has had a decent start in his senior football coaching career.
The former Orlando Pirates winger saw his Chippa side beat the Buccaneers 1-0, which marked his first win as a coach, and he drew 1-1 against SuperSport United, a club coached by his mentor.
Klate, who is reasonably new in the coaching scenes, says he is learning from some of the best coaches during his time in the game as he aims to become a great tactician.
"I want to push myself and learn as quickly as I can; if you look at coaches like Gavin Hunt, who has won multiple league titles, Pitso Mosimane as well, those are the coaches that I look up to," Klate told the media at Orlando Stadium.
"They gave me the opportunity to start my career, and obviously, the other one went on to have great success with coach Gavin Hunt so I mean I have fantastic mentors, who are always willing to assist, I can pick up the phone anytime to get advice.
"It is all about learning as much as I can because it is a new environment for me, a new challenge, but it is a challenge that I took, and I have to go with it.
The 37-year-old coach says he wants to carry his winning mentality and the passion he had as a player into his coaching career.
"I have always been a passionate player and absolutely hate losing, I've always hated losing; even as a coach now, I don't like losing; the fighting spirit, passion, and desire is there for coaching," he said.
"I retired because I lost my passion and desire to play the game; now, my passion and desire is all fully focused on coaching and teaching the boys as I have a sound development background, and I have learnt a lot, and I'm still learning. I have good people around me… and so much going for me, and I want to complete my coaching badges."
