Jordan Named ASB Player Of The Decade

South African forward, Keryn Jordan, was this weekend named as the Player of the Decade in the ASB Premiership in New Zealand.

Jordan, who sadly lost his battle with cancer last year at the age of 37, spent around a decade in South African football, playing for Pretoria City, Manning Rangers and Moroka Swallows, before leaving for Waitakere United in 2004.

The talented striker, who should possibly have had more caps for Bafana Bafana, is second on the ASB's all-time goalscorer charts having grabbed 62 goals during his time there.

Allan Jones, the man that took him from Waitakere to Auckland City in 2005, was full of praise for the forward, saying at the ceremony, "Keryn had a massive effect both within the team and in the league. Opponents were so conscious of his presence that by over-covering the space he would use often provided the opportunity for players breaking from our midfield to score."

"Keryn had an excellent attitude to work and demanded much from himself as well as those around him. He was a delight to coach, always interested and very professional in his approach to the game.

"His all-round technical ability was high, both on the ground and in the air. He was a clinical finisher and scored big goals in big games. Technically he possessed one of the tightest reverse chop turns I've ever seen and he constantly wrong footed centre backs with great embarrassment as those turns often produced direct strikes and goals."

According to the New Zealand football website 'the fan voting overwhelmingly settle on Jordan', and it seems to have come as no surprise that the two-time ASB Golden Boot winner was named as the Player of the Decade.

Meanwhile, in other news, Jordan's talented son, Liam, 15, is close to signing a contract with PSL side, Wits, after impressing during a spell training with their first team.
