Inside Chiefs – Squad Boost As Derby Looms…
Maritzburg United yesterday announced the signing of three new players, New Zealander, Dan Morgan, Micah Lea'alafa from the Solomon Islands, and Bafana Bafana international, Daylon Claasen.
They have also confirmed that all three players have signed two-year deals with the Team of Choice, with the option of a further year should things go well in the season to come.
The trio join the likes of Phumlani Ntshangase, Judas Moseamedi, Gabriel Nyoni, Kwanda Mngonyama and Yusuf Jappie as Eric Tinkler looks to put together a side that can climb up the table for 2019/20.
Maritzburg's chairman, Farook Kadodia gave some information on the new trio as they prepare for the campaign ahead, stating his happiness at their arrival.
On Morgan, a left-sided player, Kadodia told Maritzburg's official website, "The club has struggled for a while for a specialised left-footed full-back. We believe Dan Morgan will give us the attributes required in this position, and this will increase the coach's options in terms of defensive formations as the season progresses. He comes with good pedigree and will also be an asset when defending set pieces."
Meanwhile, regarding Claasen, he said, "Daylon is a player who comes with both European and PSL experience, and someone our coach believes will suit our style of football very well. A creative player with superb technique and vision, he will complement the attacking players we have at the club.

"A solid professional of good temperament, we believe Daylon will fit in nicely with the ethos of Maritzburg United and are excited about seeing what he can do for us on the field next season."
Lastly, on Lea'alafa, the chairman added, "Micah is an attacking midfielder or winger and we believe he will be a good fit for the team and combine well with the other midfielders we have and will provide the X-factor we're looking for on the front line."
All of the clubs in the Absa Premiership are bolstering their squads in preparation for the months ahead, and a triple swoop was completed yesterday – including two internationals.
