'I Thought It Was A Joke'

He has hit the ground running since arriving in Mzansi, scoring in the Nedbank Cup against Orlando Pirates and then doing so again against Real Kings, but Cameroonian forward Eva Nga reveals how he initially thought Gavin Hunt's interest in him was a joke.

It's not every day that a coach will fly to Mozambique from South Africa to have a closer look at a player, so it's no surprise that Nga laughed off talk that Hunt was interested in his services.

However, the striker's impressive tally of 24 goals for eventual league winners Costa Do Sol, which earned him the Moçambola Player of the Season award, would have any coach sitting up and taking note.

Speaking exclusively to Soccer Laduma in issue 1173, the 27-year-old details how the charismatic Hunt made the journey to Mozambique to watch him strut his stuff.

"I was not aware that Wits wanted me. I was sleeping one day and one agent called me and asked me if I would be interested in coming to South Africa to play for Wits. I thought it was a joke, I cannot say anything to you regarding that, but I can give you the number of the club's president so that you can talk to him.

"I was shocked when the president called me before one of our games and told me that coach Gavin Hunt would be in attendance and he was coming to watch me.

"He came and clearly he was happy because he called me the following day, telling me that I would have to come to South Africa," Nga revealed.
