After media reports indicated that Highlands Park could be the first team to return to training after a five week layoff, head coach Owen Da Gama has shed some light on the matter.
With the country moving into level four of lockdown as stated by president Cyril Ramaphosa last week, talk of teams returning to action came to the fore.
The Lions of the North were reported to be the first team set to return to training after May 1, however this has been refuted by Da Gama.
Speaking to the Siya crew, an irate Da Gama slammed rumours that his players would be returning to training.
"This is absolute rubbish. How can we return to training under these circumstances? It is an absolute lie. What do people think of Highlands Park? We were 1st team to go into lockdown. Whoever started this rumour is lying through their teeth. We have already disputed it in the SAFA medical group. This looks like a plot to tarnish the name of Highlands Park and I can tell you that this rumour is based on jealousy."
Da Gama has revealed that club training is conducted by way of video calls where the whole team joins in on the session.
"Look, we are keeping in line with government requirements. The only training the boys are doing is the group video call, where we keep tabs on the players," he added.
