DStv Premiership Report: Sekhukhune United v Cape Town City 16 October 2021

Sekhukhune United's impressive start to life in the DStv Premiership continued after defeating Cape Town City 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

DStv Premiership

Result: Sekhukhune United 1-0 Cape Town City

Date: 16 October 2021

Venue: Ellis Park

Sekhukhune were knocking the ball around confidently in the opening stages and after a good passage of play, Nyiko Mobbie tried his luck from range but it went wide.

Soon after, City won a corner and Bradley Ralani floated it in but Sekhukhune cleared and launched a counter-attack, from which Nkanyiso Madonsela forced Hugo Marques into a brilliant save.

It was then that opposition goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata came to his side's rescue from a rising shot from Thabo Nodada after he was assisted by Mduduzi Mdantsane.

Mdantsane then got himself on the ball in the attacking third and had a crack from long-range, which Nsabata pushed out for a corner.

Sekhukhune were finally given their GladAfrica Championship title recently:

Sekhukhune took the lead five minutes after the interval. City went to sleep at the back and Tlotlo Leepile fired a shot at goal and it was across the face of goal for Chibuike Ohizu to complete the tap-in from close range.

The Citizens were pushing for the equaliser and after a brilliant cross from Abubaker Mobara, Tashreeq Morris' header was straight at the keeper.

Soon after, Morris wasted another chance as he headed wide from Craig Martin's cross this time as time began to run out.

City were definitely in the ascendancy but failing to make their dominance count and in the end would come to rue that as they slip down to 11th position in the standings, despite enjoying over 70 percent of the possession.
