Clarence Mlokoti, one of the founding members of Kaizer Chiefs, was remembered last Sunday as eight teams locked horns at Tsomo Stadium and Tsomo Mission in the Chris Hani District in the Eastern Cape.
Masonwabe FC, Home Attackers, Bazooka Stars FC, Cunningum Forest FC, Fair Town, Phelis United FC, Swallows FC and Attackers FC all took part in the annual tournament organised by former Kaizer Chiefs media officer, Luthando Zibeko.
The final, which was fiercely contested between Masonwabe FC from Engcobo and Home Attackers from Dordrecht, which was won 2-0 by Masonwabe.
The Chairperson of the Luthando Zibeko Foundation expressed his delight and gratitude to the partners who made the tournament possible.
Zibeko said, "We are forever grateful to the Mlokoti family, including Kaizer Chiefs, for giving us a go ahead to organise this annual event to honour a true servant of football, a teacher and community builder, the late Clarence Mlokoti. The tournament would have been possible without the dedicated partners and we thank all of them for walking this journey with us."
Before joining Chiefs 'Oom Locks' served in the Orlando Pirates 1960 committees for community development. When Kaizer Motaung returned from the USA, where he was playing professional soccer in the North American Soccer League, he recruited Mlokoti to help him form Chiefs.
