Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo has revealed a conversation he had with former AmaZulu general manager Lunga Sokhela regarding paying KwaZulu-Natal footballers better salaries.
The Province of KZN still regarded as one of the most talented region in terms of producing talent but there's still struggle to compete in the Premier Soccer League for trophies.
Khuzwayo says one of the reasons for the lack of competitiveness it because of lack security and appreciation especially financial hence almost ever top player opt for Gauteng move.
"KZN it a huge Province and having four reams in the DSTV Premiership it was long overdue, we should have more, there's talent huge talent, we need more teams and dominate the league," Khuzwayo told the Siya crew.
"Because if you look at all the players that have left and still leaving from this Province to Gauteng are extremely talented, but the reality is that we all left because of security and money, which it something KZN teans need to work on and improve to sustain their teams."
The former AmaZulu FC, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper says at some point during his playing days he had discussion with Lunga Sokhela about the "issue" of KZN-based players getting paid more.
"For example if AmaZulu FC gave me same money I was earning where I went to, I would've stayed. I even told Lunga Sokhela when he was still part of Usuthu, that if KZN teams can give their own players same salaries at Gauteng teams, they won't lose talent but I'm glad that new leadership is doing something to change that even MaMkhize at Royal AM too," he added
"It has given progress, look at AmaZulu are in the CAF champions and that tells you if we give players good service they can deliver and we have top talent just need people to look after them."
