Chiefs’ Bold Move With Striker, Amakhosi Act After Euro Interest

Insiders disclosed that Du Preez's contract was initially set to expire in June 2025, but with the exercised option, he will remain with the club until at least June 2027.

"Everything happened two weeks ago. The club took it upon themselves to exercise the two-year option on Ashley's (Du Preez) contract. They value him that much so they didn't want to wait until the contract is over because anything could happen after that. So, the option takes the new contract to June 2027. That's when a new contract could be discussed again. So for now he is a Kaizer Chiefs player for the next two years," the Siya source stated.

A second insider stated that European interest in Du Preez remains strong, prompting Chiefs to secure his contract.

"This is also a strategy to keep the player's contract active so that if that move to Europe still happens then they can sell him instead of losing him for free. So by exercising the two-year option it gives the club the chance to make money out of the (potential) move when it eventually happens," the second source revealed.

The 27-year-old, reportedly valued at approximately R40 million for a European move, joined Amakhosi in 2022 on a three-year deal.

Soccer Laduma reached out to Chiefs for comment, but there was no response at the time of publication.
