Arrows Strike Down Chippa

Arrows Strike Down Chippa

Absa Premiership

Result: Chippa United 1-2 Golden Arrows

Date: 3 April 2013

Venue: Philippi Stadium

Golden Arrows came from behind to secure a valuable 2-1 win over Chippa United at the Philippi Stadium on Wednesday.

The Chilli Boys were given a massive boost as Benjani Mwaruwari gave them an early lead, but Musa Bilankulu and Norman Smith's second-half strikes saw the visitors claim all the points.

Chippa were fastest out of the block and threatened in the second minute when Philani Dlamini eked out a shot, but Mzuvukile Tom was able to clear the danger.

Just after the ten minute mark, the Chilli Boys did, however, take the lead when Welcome Qalanto passed to the well-travelled Benjani who expertly slotted it past Nkosingiphile Gumede.

Qalanto then came close to scoring a goal of his own ten minutes later, but the Chippa striker's shot flew just wide of the post. Chippa were again threatening and got a free-kick in an attacking position, but Qalanto once more failed to draw out a save.

It took just seven minutes into the second period for Arrows to level matters when Bilankulu netted from close-range following the cross from Norman Smith.

Just after the hour the visitors silenced the home crowd as they bagged a second when Smith turned scorer after collecting Lucky Nguzana's pass.

Defeat for Chippa sees them remain firmly rooted to the foot of the table and almost certain to end the season in the drop zone, while the victory for Arrows listed them to 26 points.
