AmaZulu's Siyabonga Nomvethe highlights concerns over strikers in SA.

AmaZulu FC assistant coach Siyabonga Nomvethe has expressed his disappointment over the lack of good local strikers in the Premier Soccer League. 

Over the years, more foreign strikers have dominated the goalscoring charts. Mamelodi Sundowns' Peter Shalulile tops the leaderboard (22 goals). Victor Letsoalo of Royal AM (14) and Eva Nga of Chippa United (10) are far behind the Namibian marksman.  

"I'm very disappointed that our local strikers are not competing for top goalscorer, it is always foreign players. Our strikers needs to pull up their socks," Nomvethe told the media in Durban on Thursday.

Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns scored 24 DSTV Premiership goals in 2021.

Royal AM forward (second from left) has netted 17 league goals in 2021.

Cape Town City's Mduduzi Mdantsane netted 10 league goals in 2021.

SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler has 10 league goals in 2021.

Thabiso Kutumela netted 14 goals in 2021, for Maritzburg United and Mamelodi Sundowns.

SuperSport United forward Thamsanqa Gabuza netted 11 league goals in 2021.

"We also needs to see our strikers dominating there and fighting for that award. It also helps Bafana Bafana and when there's a foreign player, it is a loss to the country because every good player must play for the national team or even go to Europe," he added.
