Bidvest Wits midfielder, Papy Faty, is being kept in hospital for observation after collapsing in a friendly after coming on as a substitute against SuperSport United on Tuesday.
The game, which ended 1-1 thanks to goals from Bongani Khumalo and Joaquim Lupeta, was marred by Faty’s situation, with the Burundian having to be rushed to hospital straight from the game.
While the reason for the 25-year-old’s collapse is not yet known, Wits’ assistant coach, Paul Johnstone, has explained that it was a scary moment seeing the midfielder collapse, and that he was being kept in hospital for the time being.
Johnstone said, "It was a bit of a scary one. He was standing in the box waiting for a corner and then just collapsed... He came around on his own pretty quickly, probably 10 seconds at most, they aren't sure what it was but are keeping him in for observation."
