Shakes Mashaba's side claimed their first win in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers after edging the Lions of Teranga 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
However, Motale was not impressed with Bafana's defending in the encounter, which he felt was the only negative on the day.
"As a team they played very well. We needed the three points and we got that which is very important," Motale told the Siya crew.
"It's just unfortunate that the defence was not tight on the opposition strikers. We could have done much better if we had not conceded but it's good we good the result we needed to go to the top of the log. We have to build from here going forward."
Bafana currently sit second in Group D level on points with Burkina Faso, who boast a superior goal difference.
