Kaizer Chiefs striker, Bernard Parker, has compared the Amakhosi’s stuttering start to the season to a number of other European sides.
The defending champions have struggled to assert their dominance under new coach Steve Komphela so far this season and sit fifth on the log at present.
Komphela’s charges remain unbeaten in the league but have only managed to pick up 11 points in seven games and it seems as though they are becoming draw specialists, with only two wins and five draws so far.
Parker has indicated that a number of teams around the world have suffered the same fate after winning their respective leagues last season.
“I don’t think it has to do with the changes in the technical team at all. You know, after winning a league title, the next season becomes a bit harder for any team,” Parker told Soccer Laduma.
“That happened after we won the league and the Nedbank Cup with Coach Stuart (Baxter) when the following season we finished without a trophy and Mamelodi Sundowns won the league.
“Now every team wants to beat the champions and we become the hunted. Look at what is happening to Chelsea in England. It’s the same with Barcelona in Spain and Juventus in Italy.
“So it’s just that time in the season, but it will come to pass,” he added.
Do you think that it is fair to label Chiefs draw specialists? And do you agree with Parkers assessment or do you think that Komphela and his technical team should shoulder some of the blame?
