After a season with FC Barcelona that had a calamitous end to it, talisman Lionel Messi has made a spectacular return to his boyhood club where he played before joining Barca. Check it out.
Argentina's star forward Lionel Messi was awarded the number 10 shirt by his former club Newell's Old Boys in Argentina.
This was after the Argentine national team played a friendly against Newell's, comfortably beating them 5-0. Of course, Messi was on the scoresheet, scoring a brace.
The club shared a snap of the Barca star with two of their coaches on Instagram as they handed over the shirt.
"The most beautiful club in the world is red and black, and HE knows it. Cristian D'Amico and Juan José Concina spoke with @leomessi and delivered a shirt 10," the club captioned the pic.
Messi will be hoping he can inspire his side to the Copa America title and salvage some pride after his domestic season ended in disaster.
Barcelona were knocked out by Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final. They also lost to Valencia in the Copa Del Rey final a few weeks later.
Do you think Messi can win a major trophy with his country?
