FC Barcelona legend, Hristo Stoichkov, has defended the club’s record-signing, Neymar, in light of the intense criticism he is receiving from Spanish media.
Neymar has been surrounded by the controversy around his move from Santos to the Catalan giants, which eventually led to the resignation of Barcelona president, Sandro Rosell.
Stoichkov, however, who joined Barcelona in 1990 and was part of the club’s ‘dream team’ that won four consecutive La Liga titles and one Champions League, was critical of Rosell rather than Neymar and believes the Brazilan will slowly prove his worth for the club.
“To me it is absurd that, because he (Rosell) was denounced, he decided to quit. Neymar is not to blame,” the Bulgarian told Cadena COPE.
"Whatever they say, he is a good player who will eventually sink into the dynamics of the club.”
Neymar has only scored four goals since returning from an injury in the beginning of February and many eyes will again be on him in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid tonight.
