Transfer Chaos: SA Clubs Sanctioned By FIFA

TS Galaxy have once again landed in hot water with FIFA, receiving their fourth transfer ban, and their second in just over a month. The Mpumalanga-based outfit has now joined a growing list of South African clubs currently under sanction from the world football governing body over player-related disputes.

According to official FIFA records, Galaxy were slapped with a ban on 29 April 2025, followed by a second embargo just days later on 7 May. The latest sanction is understood to concern goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak, whose contract with the club was terminated in January this year.

This fresh matter adds to an already growing legal pile-up at the club’s doorstep.

Kolak’s case comes hot on the heels of another high-profile dispute involving Liberian forward Jegbay Morris. The striker, who joined TS Galaxy as one of eight new signings this season, never made a single appearance for the team and had his contract unceremoniously terminated just six months into a three-year agreement. According to insiders, Morris spent half a year in South Africa without receiving a cent in salary. FIFA ruled in his favour, issuing a registration ban on the club that became active on 29 April.

These two recent sanctions add to a troubling pattern. Back in August 2024, Galaxy were punished with a three-window transfer ban for the wrongful dismissal of Ivorian striker Bernard Yao Kouassi. Much like Morris, Kouassi also did not play a competitive match for the Rockets. After abruptly leaving the club in early 2023, he took his grievance to FIFA, resulting in a ruling that Galaxy must pay R1.8 million in damages or face continued exclusion from transfer activity.

Galaxy’s reputation is beginning to take a knock, with this being their fourth ban on record. Earlier bans were recorded on 9 December 2024 and 19 December 2024, before the two most recent ones in April and May 2025.

Meanwhile, Cape Town All Stars are also under scrutiny, currently serving two transfer bans issued on 14 April and 1 May 2025 respectively. Unlike Galaxy, the bans imposed on the Cape side are marked “until lifted,” indicating the severity and uncertainty surrounding their disputes.

Elsewhere, Pretoria Callies, Royal AM, and even TS Galaxy themselves have been handed three-window bans in late 2024 and early 2025, suggesting a broader crisis of contract mismanagement and player treatment among certain South African teams.
