It's Thursday and Supporters Club takes you back down the memory lane. Today, we look back at the 1991 BP Top 8 Cup final between Kaizer Chiefs and Jomo Cosmos.
The game was played at a packed FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Both teams had a galaxy of stars in their respective teams, with Amakhosi boasting the likes of Doctor Khumalo, Ace Khuse, Fani Madida and others, while Ezenkosi had Phil Masinga, Brian Perry and Lawrence "Sister Monica" Siyangaphi, among others.
The game began at 3pm and the teams went at each other from the onset. Amakhosi scored first from the penalty spot, which Khumalo converted, to make it 1-0 to Amakhosi. Phil Masinga then equalised for Cosmos before Shane McGregor scored a second for Chiefs.
Masinga then capitalised from a poor Khumalo back-pass to make it 2-2. Madida grabbed a third for the Glamour boys, but again "Chippa" was not to be outdone as he grabbed his hat-trick strike. The score was 3-3 at the end of the 90 minutes.
The game then went to extra time, and Madida scored the only goal in the added 30 minutes to seal the victory for Amakhosi. The final score read: Kaizer Chiefs 4-3 Jomo Cosmos, and Amakhosi were crowned the 1991 BP Top 8 champions.
What memories do you have of that game, good or bad?
