Following the tragic death of one of Kaizer Chiefs' supporters after the team's 2-0 win against Chippa United at Port Elizabeth's Nelson Mandela Bay stadium last Saturday, former Chiefs number one supporter, Saddam Maake, has revealed that he saw the unfortunate incident coming and even warned the authorities.
"I was there and saw everything that happened. I could easily see that what happened at FNB stadium when we beat Polokwane City, was going to repeat itself in Port Elizabeth. Before the final whistle, I could foresee the pitch invasion because there was not enough security and I went to the supervisor and told him to please do something before things get out of hand. He was busy arguing with me instead of preventing a possible stampede and field invasion. I also told him to act swiftly in order to protect the players. Before we even get to the incident, I need to point out the fact that Chippa United didn't provide enough security. Now we lost a life cheaply and unnecessarily! I'm not blaming anyone as I'm just stating what I saw. This should never happen again," said Maake.
The deceased supporter's funeral details have not been confirmed as yet, but Maake expressed his sadness at the loss of a life.
"It hurts to lose someone's life and it is even worse when it happens on the field of play. I mean, the stadium is supposed to be one of the safest places but that wasn't the case for the guy who lost his life. As happy as I was that we won the match but even if we had lost, we'd get our three points back next season, but the same can't be said about the guy's life. What happened on Saturday afternoon is not right for the beautiful game. I will never understand the use of guns with live ammunition at the stadium, I mean why not use rubber bullets or teargas?" asked Maake.
What do you guys think of what happened after the field invasion on Saturday afternoon?
