Remembering The Late Shoes Moshoeu... RIP Shooooes

Today, Supporters Club remembers one of the most gifted players the country has ever produced, the late Lesiba John "Shoes" Moshoeu, who passed away on this day in 2015.

Born on 18 December 1965, in Ga-Mashashane (Limpopo), Shoes started his football career at an amateur team, Blue Whales FC in Soweto, before he was signed by Kaizer Chiefs for their development ranks in 1987. He failed to break into the first team at the then star-studded Amakhosi, and was sold to Blackpool, where he made name for himself.

He scored 75 goals in 175 games for Blackpool between 1987 and 1992, before he rejoined Chiefs in 1993 for a then record fee of R250 000. He scored two goals in 14 games for Amakhosi before he moved to Turkish club Genclerbirligi, where he scored five goals in 27 games between 1993 and 1995, before moving on to Kocaelispor, for whom he played 76 games and scored 20 goals between 1995 and 1997.

From 1997 to 2001, he played for Fenerbahce and contributed with 15 goals in 75 games. He then moved to Bursaspor in 2001 and scored seven goals in 47 games there, before moving back to South Africa and Chiefs.

He helped Amakhosi to back-to-back league and cup doubles between 2003 and 2006, scoring 23 goals in 89 games for them before he moved to AmaZulu, where he scored five goals in 51 games between 2006 and 2008.

His last club was Vodacom League side Alexandra United, where he was a player/coach from 2010 to 2014. He also represented South Africa at two FIFA World Cups, in 1998 and 2002. He played 73 games and scored eight goals for his country, between 1993 and 2004.

He had an illustrious career, for sure! What a footballer Shoes was!

May His Soul Continue To Rest In Peace.

What fond memories do you have of Shoes?
