Readers Voice: The Missing Bafana Stars

Readers Voice: The Missing Bafana Stars

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos recently named his provisional squad for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia, raising a number of concerns among supporters particularly with regards to player exclusions.

What's the story?

It can be said that there have been a number of surprises with regards to the latest Bafana Bafana squad, as coach Broos added some experience to the side that will face Ethiopia next month.

South Africa will hope to build on their previous win over Ghana, as they currently sit at the top of Group G.

Now looking ahead on their African counterparts, fans have bemoaned some of Broos'choices, particularly at left-back.

Hlanti Returns

Kaizer Chiefs defender Sifiso Hlanti returns to the national side, however, the dialogue among fans is that Mamelodi Sundowns star Lyle Lakay deserves a call-up. The former SuperSport United man is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the country, given his unique attributes from dead-ball and set-piece situations.

Massive Reaction

Versatile Downs star, Rivaldo Coetzee has also been a hot topic among supporters when speaking about the national team, with many feeling that his talents should be utilised on a national level.

In taking to the Soccer Laduma Facebook account, under the 'Few Surprises In Bafana's Latest Provisional Squad Of 34' post, supporters made their voices heard about the squad selection.

Here are some of the reactions:

Khanya Prince'Kay Jas

"Only Rivaldo Coetzee is missing otherwise, it's a promising squad. All the best of luck to our nation."
