Readers Voice: Benni Always Blames The Ref

Readers Voice: Benni Always Blames The Ref

Following AmaZulu's 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup this past weekend, coach Benni McCarthy bemoaned some of the officiating as we check out some fan reactions to his comments.

What's the story?

The Nedbank Cup kicked off the past weekend, with Usuthu and Pirates being two of the sides battling it out in the popular tournament. In what was a tie filled with many talking points, the AmaZulu coach had much to say during and after the game.

During the opening exchanges of the game, both teams were unafraid of taking the game to each other. It was Pirates however who had two golden opportunities before the 15 th minute, with Goodman Mosele heading wide from close range, while Ntsako Makhubela failed to finish off a good attacking move with a tamed shot at the AmaZulu goalkeeper.

Three Penalties

It was in the 21st minute when the game produced its first major talking point when Augustine Mulenga drove into the Bucs penalty area. As he squeezed the ball through Mosele's legs and the ball touched Mosele's arm with the AmaZulu stars calling for a penalty.

McCarthy was likewise animated on the touchline as the referee decided a drop ball for Bucs was the right decision.

While Pirates ran out as the eventual 1-0 winners on the day, coupled with AmaZulu missing a penalty that was awarded too them, coach Benni felt that he counted at least three penalties in the game.

Despite praising his side, McCarthy bemoaned some of the officiating as supporters took to Twitter in voicing their opinion on the matter.

Have your say…

Do you think AmaZulu should have gotten more out of the game?
