With Phakamani Mahlambi still deemed to be one of the most talented players of his age group, a local football fan has likened his path to that of a fallen star, Masibusane Zongo. Check it out!'
What's the story?
Over the years, South African football fans have had their fair share of 'what could have been' stories when it comes to footballers who fail to live up to expectations.
Much like that of former Bidvest Wits talent, Zongo, who was a hot prospect in local football as a youngster. While troubles away from the game played a big role in the trickster not fulfilling his massive potential, a local fan fears that the same could happen for Mahlambi.
Top Talent
During his time with Bidvest Wits, Mahlambi made a name for himself as one of the most promising young talents in the PSL era. The speedy attacker recently joined coach Gavin Hunt at Chippa United on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mahlambi spent last season on loan at AmaZulu, however, coach Benni McCarthy gave the impression that he was not taking his career seriously.
Another Zongo
That said, a fan by the name of Lusanda Matanzima took to a Soccer Laduma Facebook post ( Agent: No One Knows Him Better) where he explained that if he is not serious about his career, there's nothing more Hunt can do.
Matanzima said, "Another Masibusane Zongo, what a waste of talent. I hope Hunt manages to revive this young boy's career, the boy is very talented.
"His only mistake was to join Sundowns, remember that he also played for Al Ahly in Egypt, that's how talented the boy is. Everything has to first start with him, if he is not serious there is nothing Gavin can do."
Have your say…
Do you think Hunt can help resurrect Mahlambi's career?
