As Mamelodi Sundowns continue to strengthen their team, there have been mixed reactions among fans following the signing of midfielder Teboho Mokoena.
What's the story?
The Chloorkop outfit is known for being serious movers in transfer markets and have been busy in the current January window. Expected to turn out for the club in the near future is South American star Erwin Saavedra and also, Mokoena.
Big Player
For Mokoena, the former SuperSport United man has been one of the leading midfielders in the PSL in recent years, with a big move being only a matter of time.
Now with Downs making the call, Mokoena will compete in a packed midfield department that include some of the biggest names in South African football. The 25-year-old fine-tuned his craft at SSU for eight years before making the big leap, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal with the club.'
SSU To Downs
That said, Mokoena forms part of a big group of players who plied their trade with SSU to have made the way to Sundowns. The likes of Hlompho Kekana, Elias Pelembe, Anthony Laffor and Grant Kekana have all crossed the divide over the years.
With regards to the supporters reactions on Mokoena's signature, it can be said that opinions have varied. While many feel that he would add a new dimension to the team, others are with the train of thought that he could well be committing career suicide.
Here are some of the reactions:
"Rest in peace to his career"
"MAMELODI SUNDOWNS is destroying Bafana Bafana by signing all these quality players"
"PSL must introduce financial fair play so that Sundowns dominance can come to an end" pic.twitter.com/5GyNFB1CLb
If sundwns dnt win CAF champions League dis season lets accept dt de just wasting money for nothing
Wrong move @TebohoMokoena28, this is the end of promising career you had. You should have went to Belgium and expose yourself to better leagues in Europe. Now Bafana is also gonna suffer, many have went that route to Pretoria for money and many their careers were cut short. ?????????????? pic.twitter.com/wJ92n2DIby
Bra Hlompho's replacement... It's only fitting that he wear the number 8 pic.twitter.com/6CSfxPtogo
Would have loved to have seen Tebogo Mokena make a move to Europe, but a great move for him none the less.
Welcome to the Yellow Nation Tebza, only hardwork and giving the brand the best of what you can afford is what makes good players making it at Sundowns and then you'll be recognized as the best. Help the team to win the next CAFCL star
Have your say….
Do you think Mokoena will be a good signing for Downs?
