For those of you not here in Supporters Club yesterday, I asked our Supporter Club members what they thought the average home attendance figure of the PSL was. So if you took all 16 clubs and took their average home attendance - then added those averages together and divided by the 16 clubs - we would have a PSL average.
I gave the following options.
* 2 000
* 5 000
* 10 000
* 15 000
I have some bad news for you. The day has run away with me and I've been in meetings and editing pieces of writing so haven't had much success with tracking down numbers for the club, however I will pick up the mantle first thing tomorrow morning again.
In the mean time here is what most of you guys are saying about what your perception is when it comes to crowd attendance and it seems most of you think the number is quite.
Here is what you said:
Ada_khosi: 2 000
Gerald: 5 000
Bil-Guil: 5 000
Zax5_Bucs: 5 000
KatlegoM: 5 000
vuvzela_khosi: 10 000
OMG_wa_le_Buccaneer: 15 000
I don't think most of you are too far off actually. But until I get clubs speaking to me about their numbers it's very difficult to say yes or no.
Of the comments that have been coming in I think khathu2011 has hit the nail on the head about attendance. He has said, "The issue of attendance is very tricky here in SA because teams don't own Stadiums with that said these teams don't have spiritual homes and most fans are much acquainted with big teams in a way that lets say chiefs is playing in Polokwane against Polokwane city, people from Polokwane will go to the match for chiefs not City."
I have to agree to a certain extent. I think a big problem relating to crowd attendance is that teams for the most part don't have spiritual homes anymore. There seems to be a lack of community ownership of a team. But then who can blame supporters for that when their teams play home games all over the country or relocate at the drop of a hat. It's a sad state of affairs.
I'll do my best to get those numbers to you tomorrow guys.
Please keep this conversation going.
Thanks
