Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates entertain another second tier side in the Nedbank Cup, as they take on Venda Football Academy in the last 16 on Saturday evening.

Nedbank Cup

Teams: Orlando Pirates v Venda Football Academy

Date: 11 March 2023

Venue: Orlando Stadium

Time: 20h00

Pirates bounced back from their narrow 1-0 defeat to rivals Kaizer Chiefs in emphatic style after hammering neighbours Swallows 4-1 just over a week ago thanks to a hat-trick by Monnapule Saleng.

The Buccaneers booked their spot at this stage of the tournament after beating Motsepe Foundation Championship side All Stars 2-0 last month.

The Soweto giants will be without skipper Innocent Maela who is serving his second match suspension after he was sent off against Chiefs.

Venda, on the other hand, are not having a good season in the league as they sit 14th on the table in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after playing to a 1-1 draw against University of Pretoria last weekend.

VFA reached this stage after edging ABC Motsepe League side Black Cross 2-1 and will take inspiration from the likes of third-tier side Dondol Stars, who have already eliminated two Premiership sides, SuperSport United and AmaZulu.

Here's how they line up:

Orlando Pirates: Chaine, Mako, Xoki, Sibisi, Hotto, Timm, Ndlondlo, Dlamini, Saleng, Lorch, Erasmus

Subs: Mpontshane, Monyane, Mthethwa, Motshwari, Makaringe, Pule, Makgopa, Dzvukamanja, Marou

VFA: Ndlovu, Makhubele,  Ramonyai, Siyasi, Ngubane, Jodwana, Tavengwa, Chirambadare, Thobo, Mariba, Manzini.

Subs: Munyai, Mofokeng, Ndlela, Mathebula, Mbedzi, Mutsivhuli, Nene, Babatunde, Rankoko.
