Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch will renew their rivalry when they clash in the MTN8 semi-final first-leg on Wednesday evening at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Teams: Mamelodi Sundowns v Stellenbosch FC

Date: 28 August 2024

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

Time: 19h00

Sundowns booked their spot in the semi-finals after needing extra-time to edge Polokwane City 1-0 in the quarter-finals, despite playing with ten men from the closing stages of regulation time after the red-card of goalkeeper Denis Onyango.

The Brazilians have not played an official game since then, a period of 17 days after they were also not involved in the CAF Champions League first preliminary round.

The Tshwane giants will be without Onyango, who is suspended.

New Sundowns signing Iqraam Rayners from Stellenbosch is not available, as he is cup-tied.

Stellies, on the other hand, qualified for the semi-finals after thrashing TS Galaxy 3-1 courtesy of goals by Jayden Adams, Andre de Jong and Fawaaz Basadien.

The Western Cape side have been busy since then, after hammering Nsingizini Hotspurs 8-0 on aggregate to progress to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The last time the sides clashed in a cup tournament was in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals last season, where Sundowns won 2-1.

Khuliso Mudau and Thembinkosi Lorch gave Masandawana a two cushion and Genino Palace pulled a goal back for Steve Barker's charges late in the game.
