Orlando Pirates find themselves joint at the top of the log standings with Mamelodi Sundowns as the two clubs are both on 53 points. The Buccaneers sit in first place on goal difference and will be looking to collect three points this Saturday, May 4 in their penultimate match against Cape Town City.
However, it is not going to be an easy ride for the Soweto side who will be travelling to the Mother City to face Benni McCarthy's charges who are dominant when it comes to playing on their home turf. Will Milutin Sredojevic's charges manage to stamp their authority on the day and walk away with three points to stay in contention for league honours?
The club's former midfielder, Thulasizwe Mbuyane gives his prediction on the match as well as others!
Match of the Week
Cape Town City v Orlando Pirates (Premier Soccer League)
Match 2 Soccer 6 Pool 4 May S6 V3 P1
League Rankings: Cape Town City 4th Orlando Pirates 1st
Useful facts: This is one fixture among all in the penultimate round of 2018/19 fixtures that will pique a lot of people's interest, with Cape Town City looking to spoil the party for Orlando Pirates, while also being out to aid their own course, as they are still in with a chance of nicking the league title. The Citizens have a penchant for rising to the occasion when playing at home, especially when facing the big guns of South African football, and Saturday afternoon is expected to be no different. The Buccaneers will not have it all easy at Athlone Stadium, where the notorious wind is known to wreak havoc with visiting sides. But with the quality at their disposal, and the motivation of a possible league title, Milutin Sredojevic's men could be too hot to handle for City. Granted, it's a home game for Benni McCarthy's men, but the Bucs supporters will be out in full force to support their team, making it feel like a home game for the visitors. Thembinkosi Lorch will be key for the Soweto giants, while City will rue the absence of Kermit Erasmus, who is out suspended and would have salivated at the prospect of facing his former side.
Thulasizwe Mbuyane: Orlando Pirates win
AmaZulu v Black Leopards(Premier Soccer League)
Match 1 Soccer 6 Pool 4 May S6 V3 P1
League Rankings: AmaZulu 11th Black Leopards 14th
Useful facts: Straight after their weekend loss to Baroka FC, AmaZulu face another side that is below them on the log standings in Black Leopards, and it is one game they have to win if they do not want to be sucked into a fight to avoid the play-offs spot on the last day of the season. Usuthu have been off the boil of late and rumours are that Cavin Johnson is under pressure to win the remaining two games in order to have his stay at the club extended. The good thing is that they are playing at home, an advantage that is very crucial at this stage of the season. At the time of writing, Lidoda Duvha were still to play Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday evening, meaning the home side will be the fresher of the two teams, which could prove to be a key factor in the end. Mwape Musonda will be out to add to his 15 goals as he looks set to receive the league's Golden Boot award.
Thulasizwe Mbuyane: AmaZulu win
Highlands Park v Bloemfontein Celtic (Premier Soccer League)
Match 3 Soccer 6 Pool 4 May S6 V3 P1
League Rankings: Highlands Park 10th Bloemfontein Celtic 8th
Useful facts: Only two points separate the two teams on the standings, and both want to finish the season in the Top Eight bracket. Bloemfontein Celtic go into this tie with their tails up after claiming the scalp of Kaizer Chiefs last weekend and will be confident of performing the same heroics at Makhulong Stadium. But Highlands Park never make it easy for their opponents and will give it a good fight. In only their first season back in the elite league, a finish in the Top Eight would show that Owen da Gama is on track, despite the challenging season they have had. When the two teams met in the first round, in December 2018, the Lions of the North overcame Siwelele with a scoreline of 2-1.
