Dylan Kerr on Itumeleng Khune's performance

Dylan Kerr on Itumeleng Khune's performance

Kaizer Chiefs veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has reminded South Africa of his worth during the DStv Compact Cup held at the weekend.

Khune, who has not seen much game-time for Amakhosi, was representing the Warriors at the inaugural tournament, giving a solid performance.

Warriors coach Dylan Kerr praised the former Bafana Bafana captain for his remarkable performance and believed he lived up to expectations.

"I thought Itumeleng Khune was outstanding throughout the game, because he hasn't played for the longest time. To come in this tournament, the expectation was on him because of stature, he is massive player in South Africa," Kerr told the media in Durban.

With Khune starved of appearances at the Glamour Boys, Kerr chose to play it safe when asked if he was surprised about the shot-stopper's situation his is boyhood club.

"It is difficult, because obviously he was playing and then was not playing at all, but coach Stuart Baxter, Dillon Sheppard and Arthur Zwane are watching these games at home," Kerr added.

"Khune is professional, (has a) great attitude and he has worked his socks off in this tournament and he realises his role in this team. Credit to him, he kept us in the game and that is why he is here."

The final of the Compact Cup will see Coastal United face off against Warriors FC and is scheduled for Saturday 29 January at 14h30.
