Chippa United take aim at Kaizer Chiefs

Their record against Kaizer Chiefs does not make for good reading but Chippa United coach Kurt Lentjies is upbeat over his side's chances against Amakhosi this weekend.

The last time Chippa met Chiefs, they were on the end of a 4-0 drubbing as Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat combined to deadly effect for Amakhosi on the day.

But with Chippa currently riding a decent wave of form, having picked up points in their last two outings, they will be looking to continue that form at the expense of Chiefs, who are on the back of a 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows.

"We have eight big games not just the next one, so we prepare for every game like we use to. Obviously the mood is good in the camp as we picked up for points in our last two games out of a possible six. We are looking to go into a better mood after the Chiefs game, but it doesn't matter who we play, like I always say, home or away, we look to get three points," Lentjies told the media ahead of the match.

Encouraging news for Lentjies is that, barring three long-term injuries, the Chilli Boys boast a clean bill of health going into the clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

"Everything is fine by the grace of God everyone is fine, and everyone is healthy. The injuries that we have is a bit long-term for us. Your [Maloisane] Mokhele, [Rodney] Ramagalela, Phakamani Mahlambi who has only joined training now where he has played bit parts in the sessions but other than that everyone is good."

Having lost four out of their last five games against Chiefs, Lentjies says history will play no part when the two sides face each other on Saturday.

"We want to give every team we play against a difficult time, it doesn't matter whether it's Kaizer Chiefs. Once the ref starts blows the whistle, all statistics go out of the window and then its just the game for the 95 minutes, so past results between Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa does not matter, it has nothing to do with what's gonna happen on Saturday," he concluded.
