The question of workloads for footballers is discussed every season, particularly for teams like Mamelodi Sundowns who are involved in multiple cup competitions in addition to league duty. There is often a concern for players' fitness levels and travel fatigue, but former Sundowns coach Gordon Igesund believes this distress is often exaggerated in local football. Speaking to SL Radio, Igesund stated, "I think here in South Africa, sometimes the players are a little too spoilt. In Europe all over the world, you've got to roll up your sleeves and you've got to get stuck in."
Filling in for Teko Modise as a guest host on The Carwash podcast, Igesund continued, "This is your job, this is what you do and if you've got to play 3 games in a week, play those 3 games and look forward to them. To walk around and say 'No, we're tired', if you're so tired, ask for a couple of weeks off and go sleep. You've gotta play in these competitions, and the more you play, the more success you'll have."
