Chairman Reveals Next Roles For Parker & Mere

Chairman Reveals Next Roles For Parker & Mere

TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has given insight into what the plans are for veteran players Bernard Parker and Vuyo Mere, who could retire from the game.

Parker and Mere have their contracts expiring at the end of June and they look set to be given roles in Galaxy's DStv Diski Challenge side as coaches. According to Sukazi, the club has been in discussions with the experienced campaigners.

"Look, they have shown some good things. One, they have shown that they have the ability to be coaches. Two, they want to uplift the youth. And three, their profiles speak for themselves. I think they will make a difference in South African football in coaching," Sukazi said to the Siya crew.

"So, as a club, we want to channel them towards our youth system, in DDC coaching. I think we will conclude with them soon on that. We have been talking and they seem quite happy with this proposition. It's up to them to decide. If they want to retire or not, that's a personal decision. But for the club's point of view, where they are, we see them more in this role than the playing role."

Parker, 38, had a horrific injury during the first half of the campaign, breaking his leg during a clash against Mamelodi Sundowns. He returned to training in the second half of the season, making just one appearance as a late substitute against Sundowns. In total, he made appearances in all competitions in the last campaign.

40-year-old Mere, meanwhile, made just one appearance for the Rockets.
