Crucial Contract Update For Key Downs Star

Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be set to offer their experienced midfielder a new contract extension, the Siya crew has been informed.

This potential extension could see Bafana Bafana star Themba Zwane remain at the Brazilians until at least June 2026.

Insiders at the club have indicated that Sundowns are looking at this extension, and that although nothing is finalized yet, the situation looks positive.

The sources added that the technical team and management are all happy to keep the former Vardos FC midfielder for another year.

"It's very clear that the club doesn't want to lose him. This one year they are set to offer to him now, follows on what was offered to him last season," said the Siya source.

"Yes, he is currently injured but that doesn't stop the club from offering him another year to his contract because they know his abilities already. Nothing has been concluded or agreed upon yet but the talks between the club and the player's representatives have already started concerning the new one-year deal," the source added.

A second Siya source stated that a new offer should also include a one-year option, which could keep him at the Gauteng club until June 2027.

"The other difference from the current contract is it didn't have an option but the new one that he has been offered has a one-year option. So if finally agreed then it will be a one-year contract with a one-year option. The talks are looking positive and the club is looking forward to keeping him at the club for at least the next year, then take up the option for another year. But the offer is on the table right now. Yes, it's a one-year offer," the second source stated.

Zwane, who is now 35 years of age, has been a consistent performer for the defending league champions for many years, winning all major trophies on offer to the team, including the 2016 CAF Champions League title under former coach Pitso Mosimane.

Even though he has been hampered by an injury that he picked up on Bafana Bafana duty against the Congo Republic, Sundowns have not forgotten his importance to the PSL champions.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns on this report, but the club had not responded by the time the story was published.

As Downs look to secure Zwane's future with the club, any proposed contract extension would reflect their confidence in his abilities and contributions over the years. Fans will be eager to see how Zwane would continue to impact the team with the Fifa Club World Cup coming up at the end of the current campaign.
