With news that Sifiso Ngobeni would be relocating to Durban from Tshwane on a loan spell from Mamelodi Sundowns, the Siya crew understands the imminent transfer led to Sibusiso Mabiliso requesting to be released.
The former Kaizer Chiefs left back was already struggling for game-time at Usuthu, having only made two appearances under coach Pablo Franco Martin since the start of the 2023/24 season.
Sources close to the player are adamant that the reports of AmaZulu FC enquiring about Ngobeni, whom they have already signed on a six-month loan, unsettled Mabiliso considering the already obvious lack of game-time. Information reaching the Siya crew is that Mabiliso will be offered to several DStv Premiership rivals in the coming weeks and months, although there is no rush as he isn't bound by the transfer window.
The 24-year-old member of the Olympic squad in Japan nearly three years ago had initially left Usuthu for Amakhosi, but when things didn't work out to his advantage at Naturena, he moved back to KwaZulu-Natal. His second coming has been forgettable, hence Mabiliso,
Soccer Laduma has been informed, is eying a do-over elsewhere considering age is still on his side. Don't be surprised if Richards Bay FC consider the left back on a short-term arrangement to beef up their squad for the second half of the season, while other top flight clubs could also be interested.
