After officially parting ways with Orlando Pirates at the end of last season hot on the heels of a one-season long loan stint with Richards Bay FC, Nkanyiso Zungu is working on getting a new club to revive his career.
When a decision to send him on loan was made, the midfielder had struggled for game-time at Bucs since joining in January 2020 from Stellenbosch FC in what was a surprise move.
Former Natal Rich Boyz coach Vasili Manousakis had hoped to help the player revive his fortunes, but failed in his attempts, with the attacking midfielder managing a mere 11 appearances in the DStv Premiership last season.
Zungu wasn't in any of the matchday squads for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit's last 11 matches of the campaign, and as a consequence, both Richards Bay and Pirates decided against having him in their respective squads for 2023/24.
Attempts to get Zungu a deal at either of AmaZulu FC, Stellenbosch FC and Royal AM have been unsuccessful, although the lanky star remains hopeful of another chance in the topflight, while keeping fit by training on his own.
"Nkanyiso Zungu is training on his own and is hopeful of a return to the PSL (top flight) this season with a new club. He appears to be serious about coming back after the disappointments he has had in his career with off-field issues and is working hard in training while assessing the options," said a source.
