It shouldn't come as a major surprise, but Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to exercise their option on captain Themba Zwane's contract.
The Bafana Bafana talisman is due for a new deal at Chloorkop, but the Siya crew has established his initial agreement included two clauses to extend his stay further until June 2026.
According to information provided to Soccer Laduma by those in the know, the Brazilians are set to trigger the first of the two options to secure 'Mshishi' for another season and then from there proceed to assess the future.
"It's highly unlikely that Themba Zwane will leave Sundowns at any given point – many expect him to retire at the club," said a source.
Indeed, talk is that the 34-year-old will hold discussions regarding what happens a year from now with Sundowns still in a position to keep him and in complete control of his fate.
Zwane, along with veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango, is one of the longest-serving players at Sundowns having joined the club in 2011 despite both going out on loan spells to get regular game time elsewhere.
When they did return, their impact was immediate, and the duo were part of the team that clinched the 2016 CAF Champions League under then coach Pitso Mosimane.
It's understood the Sundowns hierarchy do not take this lightly and have always considered this when it comes to Zwane's negotiations as well as his overall contribution.
The midfielder was also part of the Bafana squad that won a bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations as a standout player for the national team.
