SSU Can Take Advantage Of Downs' Squad Downsizing

SSU Can Take Advantage Of Downs' Squad Downsizing

The insiders have disclosed that United are prepared to negotiate for Maboe's permanent transfer from Sundowns, with whom he still has one year left on his contract.

"They wanted to negotiate for the permanent move in January but they were running against time. You remember they got him on transfer deadline day? So they didn't want to delay it further but now that there is time they are looking at starting the negotiations already. They want to start it early so that they know which players they will have next season. They want to start the season with a strong team which will compete. They believe they didn't have that this season and Maboe is one of the players who they think can help in bringing in that change," the insider stated.

A second insider suggested that Sundowns' reported squad downsizing intention might facilitate the negotiation process for SuperSport United.

"They could take the advantage that Sundowns want to cut down their squad size and let other players, mainly those on loan to go. So I think that could work in favour of SuperSport United. They are happy with what they are seeing already in Lebo (Maboe) and that's why they want him to stay permanently after June," the second source told Soccer Laduma.

The 30-year-old former Maritzburg United midfielder joined Sundowns in 2018 and he has even earned caps for Bafana Bafana. Soccer Laduma reached out to United's CEO, Stan Matthews, who could neither confirm nor deny their interest in keeping Maboe permanently.

"We will discuss that with Sundowns at the end of the season," Matthews told the Siya crew.
