PSL Clubs Queuing Up For Talented Defender

PSL Clubs Queuing Up For Talented Defender

News reaching the Siya crew is that two Betway Premiership clubs are believed to be interested in Marumo Gallants central defender Katekani Mhlongo, either for a move in January or at the end of the season.

Insiders close to both the clubs have indicated that the interest in the 23-year-old, who is currently on loan at Leruma United, started while he was still at Gallants, but nothing materialised at that time. The sources added that two clubs, one from Gauteng and one from Limpopo, have both inquired about Mhlongo.

"Yes, there are two clubs that have shown interest and inquired about him. He is currently on loan at Leruma United from Marumo Gallants. He is on his last year at Marumo Gallants so he can sign a pre-contract with any team by January. So, this move could happen in January," said the Siya source.

"One of the teams is SuperSport United who would need to prepare if they lose young Ime Okon in January, and they have been looking at him for some time now. And then there is Polokwane City whose technical team have recommended him already to management. So, for now those are the two clubs interested and have inquired about him," the source added.

A second insider stated that this doesn't mean Gallants don't want him as they will also be fighting to keep their talent.

"Coach Dan Malesela has also been monitoring him and he is happy with what he has seen from him while playing for Leruma United and they could bring him back but it will also depend on the two clubs interested in him, in terms of what happens in January or at the end of the season," the second source stated.

The 23-year-old is from Giyani and is a former Nida Sports Academy captain. He is tall and strong, reminding fans of Tefu Mashamaite and Erick Mathoho.

Soccer Laduma reached out to Gallants, SuperSport United and Polokwane City for comment, but there was no response at the time of preparing this story.

As interest in Mhlongo grows from the PSL, the young defender's future looks promising.
