Despite Stellenbosch FC managing to temporarily deflect growing interest from Gauteng's biggest clubs, the Siya crew has been informed that there is a loophole for both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in their pursuit of Fawaaz Basadien.
The Siya crew reported last year that both Chiefs and Sundowns expressed an interest in the services of the Stellies' left back.
In February, Stellies exercised the option on the player's current deal with the club, which meant that his contract, which was initially set to expire in June 2025; will now run until June 2026.
But in a shock twist, the Siya crew has been informed that Basadien's new deal with Stellies contains a clause which states that, if either Downs or Chiefs were to table an offer that is deemed acceptable by Stellies, the club would sell him to the highest bidder.
It is understood that Stellies, who have done some astute business in recent times, would only consider an offer upwards of R10 million like they did with Ashley Du Preez and Junior Mendieta, while the club is demanding R20 million for Jayden Adams.
It now remains to be seen whether either of the Soweto or Tshwane back up their interest with a solid offer that could entice the Cape Winelands outfit to sell one of their key performers.
