Jomo Cosmos Allegedly Owing Players Money

Jomo Cosmos Allegedly Owing Players Money

The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) is taking on Jomo Cosmos over alleged unpaid salaries of players at the National First Division club.

SAFPU surprisingly arrived at Cosmos during one of the training sessions recently in an attempt to have a meeting with the players allegedly owed by the club.

As confirmed by sources close to the club, some of the players at Cosmos have been reluctant to train with the team in another way for them to show their unhappiness about the alleged unpaid salaries.

"Some of the players have not been paid for two months and have had enough. Even last season there had been issues of unpaid salaries at the club in some of the months," said the source.

SAFPU have issued a statement claiming that Ezenkosi tried to prevent them from talking to the players by locking the gates on their arrival at the team's training grounds.

"SAFPU addressing players over unpaid salaries at the Jomo Cosmos training grounds, where gates were locked by the club in an attempt to prevent the Union from engaging with the players. Sad day for football where players are treated like criminals for fighting for their rights!," stated SAFPU on their official Twitter account.

Contacted for comment, SAFPU's Deputy General Secretary Taelo Calvin Motloung confirmed the allegations of unpaid salaries at the club.

"We heard about the problem at the club through our members - the players. Our members informed us that there is a crisis at the club. We have tried communicating with the club to try and get a solution to the problem but we have been unsuccessful. The players have confirmed about unpaid salaries and it's a problem. The club has promised to pay the players today (Wednesday) and we have been waiting," said Motloung.

Attempts have been made to get a comment from Cosmos, but no one from the club has been immediately available to confirm or deny the news.
