Reports coming out of East Africa is that the Flames are eyeing up Malawian legends, Ernest Mtawali and Royal AM coach John Maduka, as replacements for the 58-year-old Romanian ahead of the country's continental campaign.
Sources in Malawi have informed the Siya crew that the federation are keeping tabs on Mtawali and Maduka, with indications that a shortlist is being finalised with the upcoming group stage clash against Ethiopia later this year.
"There have been several meetings after that loss to Egypt and FAM has agreed that the two legends would the right people to take the team ahead. FAM wants people or coaches who understand Malawi football and its players," a source revealed to the Siya crew.
"They know it is hard now to qualify for the Afcon next year, but to prepare the team for other competitions like the World Cup and others. It's not like these two have applied for the job, but it is FAM who wants them to take over because they believe they can do a good job."

When contacted for comment, Mtawali said he is out of football now and cannot comment.
"No. I am out of football now. Let's not talk about that. I have bigger things to do. Call me in June and I will tell you what I am up to. But not football at the moment," Mtawali said.
