With Thabang Monare currently on national duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, he could have more good news coming his way before the end of the season at his club side, Orlando Pirates.
The midfielder, who had a bright start to the season with regular game-time, is seen by some as a surprise inclusion in Hugo Broos' 23-man squad that travelled to Ivory Coast. Prior to his latest call-up, the 34-yearold had last played for Bafana Bafana almost two years ago, in an international friendly against France in March 2022.
The Embalenhle-born star came on as a second-half substitute for Sphephelo Sithole last Sunday as the national team defeated Namibia 4-0 at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium for his first appearance in this year's Afcon.
While he had been a notable omission from the Buccaneers' line-ups in games leading up to the end of the year, indications are that the player remains in the plans at the club, with a possibility of having his contract extended, according to Siya sources.
The former Jomo Cosmos man's current deal runs until June, although the Soweto giants have an option to extend it by another year.
"He is valued highly at the club, and he is one of the committed members of the squad. The way he handles himself on and off the field is commendable, and those are some of the factors that are taken into consideration in deciding these things. He is easy to work with and the technical team likes him. The club will most likely extend the contract," said a source.
