With just a little over two months before the 2023/24 season comes to a close, midfielder George Maluleka has joined a long list of AmaZulu players waiting to learn their fate from the sporting director.
The Siya crew reported recently that Usuthu had taken the option to halt any discussions around the future of some of the squad members hoping to renegotiate fresh terms with Pedro Dias until further notice.
It's understood the instruction came from up top, with president Sandile Zungu preferring the focus to be solely on achieving a place in the Top 8 of the DStv Premiership as well as attempting to go all the way in the Nedbank Cup.
Maluleka joined Usuthu from Mamelodi Sundowns in July 2022 after he was handed a two-year deal with an option to have it extended by one more season.
It's crunch time now, but 'Mido' has been somewhat out of the picture under coach, Pablo Franco Martin, during the current campaign. The 35-year-old has also started just one game and the majority of his few appearances have come from the bench.
Siya sources have suggested talks over whether Usuthu will trigger the options are far from being at a level where Dias can recommend the player stay on their books, while Martin has so far relied more on Celimpilo Ngema, Ethan Brooks, and Ben Motshwari. This will come up when the negotiations do take place…
